Salesforce Dreamforce Cabin Structures

Our clients at GPJ are experts at designing high-impact, themed environments that break the bounds of the standard trade show display. Their work for Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce Conference is a prime example with their use of US National Park inspired structures and natural elements. But integrating authentic cabin construction with high-impact visual display items and digital technology provided a unique fabrication challenge. So they called in some support from Figure Plant for this massive event at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.

The unique requirements of event displays such as weight restrictions, short installation timelines, and budget parameters often require a simulation of an object or environment. In this case, the design team at Figure Plant concluded that since traditional timber framing (like many cabins are made) is similar in nature to legos or other simple building blocks–structurally sound and easy to assemble–it was a great approach for this project.

Using high-tech, precision CNC timber-cutting technology and solid wood, these cabin displays were made to assemble with dry-fit, pinned mortise and tenon joints that go together quickly, disassemble easily and embody an unmatched authenticity that is not only unique and impressive, but also reusable for years to come.
