‘Kiosk’ retail design for Straightway Cocktails at PDX Airport
Challenge

Straightaway Cocktails joined the ranks of 20 top local brands with retail locations in the highly anticipated, remodeled PDX Airport, opening August, 2024. The only catch was that they were on a list of 8 that wouldn’t have their permanent spaces built until the second phase of the remodel in December of 2025. That's 17 months of opportunity potentially lost. At upwards of 16 million passengers, something had to be done. Add to the mix a tight timeline in a high-security environment and a seemingly simple project begins to offer up some formidable complexity.

Solution

The Port of Portland offered Straightaway and the others temporary ‘Kiosks’ of a smaller footprint in a temporary location. These structures had to be free-standing, lockable, moveable, and code compliant. Figure Plant had a similar project underway for Steven Smith Teamaker, close friends of Straightaway, which led the cocktail maker to our door. Working closely with our design colleagues at Urban Patterns, Figure Plant created an eye-catching and inviting retail and tasting environment.

Results

On opening day of the new airport, we received this note from our client:
“Today is a huge milestone for the city of Portland and for team Straightaway! I wanted to reach out and share how happy we are with the outcome of the kiosk, and how impressed we have been with you and your team throughout the entire process.” -Caitlyn Pura - VP of Brand and Marketing, Straightaway Cocktails.
