Welcome to the inaugural issue of our shop-news bulletin

figureplant is a design & fabrication resource uniquely positioned between the worlds of advertising, industrial/interior design and architecture. We build objects and spaces for designers, photographers, ad agencies and private clients nationwide, oftentimes bridging the gaps between these various industries.

We thrive on unique projects like these and your creative minds are the springboards from which they are realized. Our periodic newsletter aims to show off some recent interesting projects and inspire you to keep us in mind as your capable design & fabrication resource.

Let us know what you think and if you'd like to forward this bulletin to someone who'd be interested - please do! - and of course let us know if we should take you off our mailing list (see below for both options)-

From Bedding to Beheading:

figureplant fulfills "Roman guide to politics, communication & religion" campaign for HBO's hit show "Rome".

Photographer David Emmite looked to figureplant to create museum-quality artifacts for HBO’s recent advertising campaign. The finished props included a faux cast bronze bed frame, stacks of gold-coins, a dagger and a box for transporting a severed head... a varied batch of political devices, each with its own special purpose..

box for severed head:
a stylish carrying case - built to last
-- wood, steel and brass

serious coin:
You'd think it'd be easy to find 500 'roman' gold coin replicas to rent, but you'd be wrong-

We set about duplicating a handful of real coins in cast hot glue via silicone molds. To these we adhered gold leaf which we then chemically aged to look the part.

'cast bronze' bed frame:
in progress.. flutes, finials; the works.

"its" abound:
ebay motors utilized figureplant's 'shop cred' to create several car themed sculptural 'its' for their ongoing branding campaign. ebay liked the props so much they installed them at the head office--

Shortly after this round we added a holiday themed batch to their 'it' arsenal-

The Last One:
A private car collector in San Francisco has turned to figureplant to help with the ongoing restoration of a 1923 Hispano Suiza, a skiff-bodied luxury touring automobile, the last existing original of its kind.
Built by European coach builders the skiff style body is constructed from Spanish Cedar held together with hundreds of copper rivets.

So far, we've worked on mending holes and cracks, constructing a new hood and the creation of replica cabinetry. (shown here)
We are honored to have the chance to aid in the Hispano's resurrection from a cracked wooden shell to a gleaming jewel of historic design -truly a once in a lifetime project.

As for 2007
, we've been busy as ever with a flurry of varied projects including:

* Icy, post-apocalyptic furniture for Capcom’s Lost Planet Xbox game launch party produced by Ideas.
* Miniature cucumber slices and toe-sized barbells for Birkenstock print ads shot by Robert Schlatter
*
A custom furniture build-out for Adina World Beat Beverages' recently acquired 1960's school bus turned veggie-oil powered trade show transport.

We'll save those projects for our next update. Until then, feel free to visit figureplant.com and browse our portfolio.

We’ll be keeping in touch,
